[1] The cross in St Keverne Churchyard that stands over the mass grave of the 106 who died when the S.S. Mohegan sank on the notorious Manacles reef.  The steamer sank off the coast of the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, on her second voyage. She hit The Manacles on 14 October 1898 with the loss of 106 out of 197 on board.

[2] Leonard Huxley (1860 – 1933) was an English schoolteacher, writer and editor.  He was Aldous Huxley’s (English writer and philosopher) father.

[3] Annet  is the second largest of the fifty or so uninhabited Isles of Scilly, 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) west of St Agnes with a length of 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) and approximately 22 hectares (54 acres) in area. Annet is a bird sanctuary and the main seabird breeding site in Scilly.
